TEXT: ROM. 8V18-25
In this present-day situation, what every Christian and Kingdom seeker is looking forward to is a New Heaven and a New Earth according to the promise of God: (II peter 3v13) “we according to his promise look forward to a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness”.
We are reminded with the happenings of these days about False Teachers and Prophets, Apostates, Scoffers and even the willfully ignorant people. Apostle Peter encouraged us the believers to shun the deceits of these fake instructors.
However, Peter compares the consequences awaiting the beliefs of the precious faith (2Peter 1v1) that while the disobedient are expecting punishments, we according to Christ’s promise look forward to a New Heaven and a New Earth. Yes, when we look around us, we discover that our present heaven is full of acid rain and all kinds of pollutants. The present Earth become so contaminated that there is no longer space available to dump our trash. Our hospitals overflow with the sick, our mental institutions bulged at the beams, our mortuaries are so full that no space to accommodate any more. Our prisons are overflowing with inmates and the individuals within the society are restless with insecurity, coronavirus, HIV/AIDS, Laser Fever, Boko Haram etc. no wonder that we look forward to a new Heaven and a New Earth.
In the present day, Nigeria as a case study will begin to remind one of the second coming of Christ. So Christ’s imminent return should challenge believers to come closer to God and do the needful which is evangelism and winning souls of the lost, we do not know when, but it is our responsibility to be ready.
The end-time events are here, so the unsaved will be left to go through the tribulations that will overtake a godless world. What will be your condition on that day so what you do for Christ now will determine that?
Brethren, the coming of the Lord is a Great Expectation for every serious-minded Christian, so this expectation must continue until Christ comes, not minding the suffering in this world which cannot be compared with the reward of Christ Jesus. Romans 8v18- “For I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us”
There are two things to note in this verse: ……. (A) “The sufferings of this time”, this refers to persecutions which the Christians encounter, as in Nigeria where the desire of particular sects which code-named themselves-Boko Haram and Herdsmen are doing everything possible with their leaders to over-run every Christian community. Again insecurity, bad leadership and corruption now engulf the system and the Society.
(B) “Not worthy to be compared with the glory … in us” – This refers to the standard of blessings appointed to Christians:- The Redeemed, of which no suffering or plan could outweigh when compared.
I want you to understand that the whole condition we are facing now in Nigeria is the product of our fore-runners and leaders who failed to see tomorrow. They sold us into slavery over a part of portage – mindful of self and family enclave. St. Paul recognizes the whole condition in Roms. 8V22- “The whole creation groaneth and travelleth in pain together until now.” The whole conditions of the creation were as a deplorable consequent upon the fall of man when the material world changed for worse. That is why we are experiencing storms, tempest, pestilences, insecurity, Boko Hara, Coronavirus, Herdsmen and all manners of killer diseases. Even animals become hostiles and predatory. All these because man’s divine image could no longer be retained. As a result, we are subjected to diseases, miseries and death.
Even ourselves, we groan within ourselves (Rom 8v23b). This continues today in every way. I want to warn, the first fruit of the spiritual joy that is having access to the heaven’s list, hearing from God in Prophecy and Bible reading, about miracles and achievements of life, do not prevent both general hardship and special persecution (Herdsmen, Boko Haram and Killer Diseases).
The fruits of the Spiritual joy only keeps us aware of what will happen – through revelation and also we could be delivered when we call upon God. This is also subject to His Will – (Rom. 8v23a) “…waiting for the Adoption, the Redemption of our body.”
So, we know that the soul of a man is redeemed by the death and resurrection of Christ and this is realized from the beginning of his (man) attitudes towards God and fellow man. Yet his body (Man) cannot avoid all forms of harm until Christ Jesus comes back.
Therefore, the man who believes and remains faithful to Christ shall be free from the bondage of the body.
Brethren, we are saved by hope (Rom. 8v24-25). It is hoped that motivates for this great expectation, hoping that Christ shall return to deliver us from whatever makes us uncomfortable now.
Therefore, our hope must be accompanied by patience so that we do not grumble. I, therefore, encourage us to endure the trials patiently while living in the expectation of a rich reward.
Note that even though our souls are redeemed at the inception of our faith in Christ, the redemption of our body from all harms and discomfort is not expected until the return of our Master Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit has enabled us to be motivated by hope accompanied by patience until the day of the Lord. Cry to God who delivers. His redemption power never fails and our hope in Him betters self-security (PS. 130). Remain Blessed.
