A fledging group in Imo State known as “Ndi Eziada Imo” has expressed serious concern over the present leadership structure in the Imo State House of Assembly which they said is designed to work against the female folks in the House of Assembly and by extension, Imo Women in general.
Lady Bisi Anyaehie, President of the group described the situation as undemocratic, runs counter to the 35% affirmative action of women and urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to correct the seeming imbalance.
According to her, at present, the Speaker and his Deputy, Majority Leader, Minority Leader, Chief Whip, all of which constitute principal officers of the occupied by male counterparts.
In her words, “this is not right at all. In other climes, women are encouraged to contribute their quota in the development of society. Unfortunately, the majority of our leaders here haven’t come to terms with the realities and have continued to view women as only good in playing the second fiddle”.
She, however, expressed optimism that Senator Hope Uzodinma will carry Imo women along in his all-inclusive administration. She commended Uzodinma for ensuring that some women were considered for top political appointment and given the opportunity to contest for 2019 general elections, saying that such gesture is not common with Igbo male politicians who often want to take it all.
The group which is dominated by Imo Women born and married in Imo State used the opportunity to congratulate Mrs. Miriam Onuoha, who was last week elected as House of Representative member for Okigwe North Federal Constituency.
Speaking further, Mrs. Anyaechie applauded Princess Miriam Onuoha for her brevity and love for her people which endeared them to her.
