BARR KENNEDY IBE SENDS STRONG-WORDED MESSAGE TO CONSTITUENTS

Date:

Obowo nwem ekelele unu nile, Ka afo 2020 buru Ngozi nye anyinile ndi Obowo. Mmiri ezoole, ogbachaala. In the face of the Supreme Court Verdict yesterday, as a lawyer, I can tell you that just like my own election was contested in the Tribunal and settled at the Court of Appeal fully and finally, Imo State Governorship election has become fully and finally settled. I, therefore, congratulate Sen. Hope Uzodinma the Governor of Imo State.

Politics is seriously dynamic and full of uncertainties but in the seeming mirage, only one thing is constant INTEREST. Interest drives all actions and inactions of every living Politian including mine. Since my involvement in Obowo politics, I have continued to Engineer, reengineer, align and realign to position Obowo interest, the interest of my teeming helpers and supporters and of course myself.

Between 2015 and 2019, by the grace of God and the decision of the majority of Obowo people, I represented Obowo state constituency in Imo State House of Assembly Owerri. I shared my political experiences with our people at any given opportunity and especially at the 3 formal constituency briefings I had in Obiri Obowo Otoko. I made it clear that the governor I was working with at the time Gov. Okorocha was averse to due process and intellectual attributes, he never showed me likeness because at a number of occasions I boldly spoke up before him against certain obnoxious policies including but not limited to the directive that Honorable Members move to Local Government as interim Chairmen. If not that my relationship with the APC leader in Obowo, Den. Chike Okafor is of blood and spirit, I would have suffered even greater political carnage. Little wonder in 2019 there was serious machinations of the erstwhile Government to truncate my return to the House of Assembly as a ranking member especially when I refused to campaign for Uche Nwosu Governor Rochas son-in-law. This I did for two reasons, firstly that it was morally wrong for Rochas to attempt to elongate his tenure and secondly, I saw with the hindsight of experience that Imo people and a majority of Obowo people were averse to it except those who were only protecting their interest as is common in politics. The 2015 to 2019 House ended with the governor giving the parting gift of 22 million naira each to Members except me and four other House member who also didn’t support Uche Nwosu.

At my swearing-in day as second term Member, I saw realities on the 1ground, intended to position Obowo and myself better, I indicated my movement to the ruling party of Imo State. I knew it was the only meaningful move for me to make, firstly because the AA Party I won with had no roots in the State and seeing Rochas in APC I knew he will never give me a chance in any Party he controls solely.

Only last week, following some sidelining and maligning I suffered by the original PDP members in the House, I decided to get stronger in the new party by asserting myself through a formal public defection. I have in the past 6 days commenced engaging all my political associates in Obowo regardless of party inclination just to express the courtesy of gratitude for the support and also to invite them to the proposed function which was yet to be scheduled.

As I stand now, as the elected representative of Obowo people in Owerri, my brain continues to tick on what is the best way forward for me to be able to position well to be able to discharge and satisfy successfully the huge burden on me as the Honorable Member. I will not stop.

Even though a quick adjustment and realignment are possible, my only worry is that Rochas is still in APC for now. He still doesn’t like me, I know however that truly APC has its primary factions. I know also that politics is very dynamic and largely driven by interest. Therefore anything is possible.

Ndi nwem, ndi Obowo, I am sure by now it is abundantly clear that we have in Kennedy Ibeh a humble, unassuming but quite daring representative in Owerri. I promise to take every possible step not to put Obowo and myself in the presence of disadvantage. So help me God.

Obowo please pray for me.
