The formation of Amotekun Security outfit by the Governors of southeast geopolitical Zone in Nigerians. The southeast Governors argued that the increasing rate of violent crimes in the region made them to collectively form the security outfit in order to checkmate the ugly development which had led to deaths of many prominent sons and daughters of the geopolitical zone.
According to the Governors, the zone has been possessed by armed herdsmen who engage in kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes, thereby making lives of the residents of that zone miserable as no day passes without bad news of one violent crime or the other,
While the resident of the zone embraced the new security outfit and commended their Governors, some members of the public held different opinion about the Amotekun security outfit.
The members of Miyettiallah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MACBAN were the first group to raise alarm accusing the southwest region police and called on the Federal Government to disband it.
The face-off between the Federal Government, the Governors and leaders of Southwest region lasted for more three weeks and finally the Federal Government represented by the Vice President gave the approval for Amotekun to be implemented within the ambit of the law.
Political, Community and religious leaders of the zone also deserves huge commendation for standing firmly behind their Governors during this face-off.
The Federal Government of Nigeria ably led by President Muhammad Buhari must be appreciated for finally understanding the importance of that security outfit to the people of that zone.
