Afcon 2019: Nigeria Beat Tunisia To Finish Third Place

The Super Eagles of Nigeria

By Ikechukwu Chidiebere Okoli

It’s no longer News that The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia 1-0 to finish third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) holding in Egypt.

A 3rd-minute goal from striker Odion Ighalowas enough to secure bronze for Nigeria.

Ighalo who came off with a suspected hamstring injury at the end of the first half finished the tournament with five goals.

Tunisia had a chance to respond to Nigeria’s goal almost immediately after Ola Aina fouled Wahbi Khazri but the Saint-Etienne forward’s effort was blocked.

Villareal’s Samuel Chukwueze had a chance to score the second goal for the Super Eagles but the forward’s curling long-range effort was brilliantly finger-tipped by goalkeeper Cherifia for a corner-kick.

Tunisia looked brighter towards the closing stages of the game but the Super Eagles did enough to hold on for their seventh Afcon bronze medal.
