A Noteworthy Appointment: Gov. Ihedioha Appoints Former IMSU SUG President, Engr REX OKORO Special Assistant (SA) Youth Affairs


In line with the State government resolve and pledge to run a youth aligned oriented government, the Executive governor of Imo State his excellency governor Emeka Ihedioha has appointed former Imo State University Student Union Government ( SUG) President, Engr. Rex Chikwesiri Okoro as Special Assistant (SA ) Youth Affairs.

Born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. K.C Okoro of Umuokirika in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

Engr. Rex Chikwesiri Okoro attended Ogbor Hill Primary School, Aba , Abia State, where he obtained First School Leaving Certificate in 2000 and Federal Government College, Okigwe, Imo State, where he obtained Senior Secoundary School Certificate (SSCE) in 2006. He is a graduate of Electrical And Electronics Engineering, from Imo State University (IMSU), where he also served as the President, Student Union Government (SUG) of during the 13th IMSU Republic. Shortly afterwards, he served in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme at the Ministry of Petroleum, Imo State.

Engr. Rex Okoro later joined the services of EDDC in 2016 as a middle-level Electrical Engineer from where he rose to his present position of Head, Metering Department, Nnewi District

Engr. Rex Okoro nonetheless started his political career at quite early way back at Okwu Urrata where he was the President of Okwu Urrata Student Alliance. He was noted to having served well in student unionism. The man at the centre of discussion overtime garnered numerous awards from Students Groups and Associations for the roles he played in fighting cultism in the university, to mention but a few. Shortly afterwards, became the Senate Majority Leader, National Association Nigerian Students (NANS), South East in 2012. However, In 2013, he rose in rank to the post of Chairman, IMO State Joint Campus Committee.

On the account of his meritorious service to humanity it wasn’t long before he was appointed Student Coordinator of Ihedioha Campaign in 2015 and subsequently the Protocol Officer to the Former Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha . Young Rex ennobled the two offices with remarkable brilliance and expertise. He exerted super human creativity in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.

Engr. Rex added another feather to his cap when he was selected among the three PDP ad-hoc delegates elected by Okirikanwenkwo ward of Ahiazu Mbaise LGA for the 2019 Imo PDP Primary Elections,
member IMO State PDP Campaign Council, Chairman Students Mobilization Sub-Committee, Member Youth mobilization Sub-Committee, and Member Road Show Sub-Committee.

Not quite long ago, Engr. Rex Okoro was appointed Member Youth Empowerment, Gender Equality, Talent and Opportunity Sub-committee of the 2019 IMO State Transition Technical Committee set up by the IMO Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and currently the Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Youth.

Congratulations to this amiable liberalized patriot of his fatherland who has put in so much dedication, passion and sacrifice in the service of his the people.
