Singer, Simi has advised the Federal Government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari to change its strategy in its ongoing fight against the spread of coronavirus.
The singer, who took to her official Twitter page on Tuesday to react to instances where some churches still held their usual Sunday service despite the growing spread of the virus, noted that there might need to change the strategy of not spreading fear.
According to Simi, the strategy of fear should be deployed as that is the only thing Nigerians respect more than religion stating further that if they insist on going to church, they should be shown stories of churches abroad where the virus is spreading really fast.
Simi wrote on Twitter; “Don’t spread fear.” They said. At this point, we might need to change that strategy because the only thing that Nigerians respect more than religion is fear. Everything needs to shut down. Not later. Now!
“If they insist on going to church, show them the stories of churches abroad where the virus spread. These religious heads need to start being more responsible. People respect you – ACT LIKE YOU DESERVE THE RESPECT. Be compassionate and tell your followers to stay home.
“The country has been shut down for less trivial things before etc…Somehow we got by. Now let’s do it for something way more important. For our lives… We’ve been governing ourselves on a lot of things that matter for a while now; we have no choice but to continue. Please,” the singer added.
Simi’s advice comes a day after media personality, Toke Makinwa suggested that China should be fined by the whole world for exposing it to the dreaded coronavirus also known as COVID-19 which has claimed so many lives and caused economic stagnation across the globe.
The chatterbox radio personality took to her Twitter page on Monday to call out Chinese authorities for exposing the world to the virus stating that the world is paying dearly for their penchant for eating all kinds of wild animals.
